gEDA-user: importing geda footprint files into fritzing

Hi,

I'm not sure this is the right venue for this post; if not please point me to the right place.

I'm one of the programmers working on Fritzing (www.fritzing.org).

We're just adding a new feature to Fritzing that enables us to import gEDA .fp files so they can also be used as Fritzing footprints. This is part of an overall strategy to better fit Fritzing into the open source EDA space, and in particular our eventual aim is to export Fritzing "sketches" (as we call them) to gEDA .pcb files, so that if our users hit a wall with Fritzing, there would be an open source path to go forward with.

But the immediate reason for this posting is to make sure that the footprint file translation is ok in terms of the various metadata fields we've added. Our intent is to preserve the copyright/license of the original file, and we have tried to make it clear that the translated file originally comes from a gEda footprint file. Any comments or attributes in the original file are also included in the translated file's metadata.

I've attached a couple of sample .fp files and their fritzing-translated .svg files. Are their other fields we should be adding or including?

Thanks very much for your help (and of course for the footprint files themselves).

Cheers,

- j
