Re: gEDA-user: Forward annotation too complicated
IIRC, the commercial packages I've used (PADS, Cadence/Allegro) automatically do (1) and (2) when a component is replaced. That worked pretty well, though they sometimes ripped up more trace than I'd have preferred (i.e. all the way to the next component).
