gEDA-user: pcb library, ACY* origin

The footprints ACY* seem to have their origin (mark?) at an unusual
place. I would expect it to be at one of the pins, or maybe the center.
Instead it is at 1/4 of the way between the pins.

This can lead to the pins being on the grid. For example in ACY300,
the left pin is 75mil from the placement location.

Is there a reason for this?

These parts all use PKG_AXIAL_LAY in misc.inc.

A related question, there are also footprints ACY*P, and RCY*P (in geda.inc)
which use PKG_AXIAL_LAY_POLAR and PKG_RADIAL_CAN_POLAR. Does that work?
I cannot find a macros of that names.

What footprints do people recommend for resistors, capacitors, etc?
