gEDA-user: Serious Bug in pcb-20060822
Hello,
I think there is a serious bug in pcb-20060822.
If a new layer (outline for board manufacturer) is added,
thermals vanish or similar strange things occur.
The story:
I started my first gEDA board design 10 weeks ago using gschem,
gsch2pcb and pcb-20060822. At that time gsch2pcb gave me a
starting board with 6 copper layers (no layers unused1 and
unused2 as in older releases). After finishing my layout, I
noticed that an additional layer for board outline in necessary,
so i added a new layer with preferences menu. This step seems to
be buggy. I got a layout with missing thermals. I have not
noticed this error when sending the gerbers to the board
fabricator, so now I have a board with missing connections to
ground planes.
I think you can reproduce this bug if you use pcb-20060822 with a
layout of your own and add an additional layer. Or you can
download my gEDA layout from
http://www.ssalewski.de/AVR_USB_gEDA.html.de
and add a layer. There is currently no englisch version of this
page, but you just have to scroll down and click on file
AVR_USB_gEDA-20061016.tar.gz (36k)
to download the archive. To use it, it may be necessary to insert
in directory footprints a softlink to a directory which contains
the footprints of John Luciani.
(The gerbers with missing thermals are still available at
http://www.ssalewski.de/boarddata.zip)
If you can verify this bug: How can I add an outline layer to my
data without destroing the layout. I hope I will not have to do
the whole layout again starting with 8 layers!
Best regards
Stefan Salewski
