That makes (at least) three of us users who propose to add lists of 
default choices for attributes. Maybe we should join forces and hack up a 
patch. However, after my coding debacle last summer I am extremely 
hesitant to engage in anything the core developers don't explicitly 
approve in advance.

This is the real benefit.
