You can "hide" any refdes' and then they won't appear in the Gerber (or
Postscript) output, nor will they display on the screen. Conventionally,
this is bound to the "h" key, simply place the cursor over an element and
hit the h key to toggle the visibility of its refdes. You can do this over a
selection with the command ":ToggleHideName(Selected)". There is no
built-in way in pcb to ellimanate component outlines. You might want to
consider making elements with outlines that are less intrusive if that is an
issue.
