You may have to use the kernel ide-scsi emulation driver.  I know that's
what cdrecord uses for IDE burners.  I use cdrecord with ide-scsi
emulation and it works like a charm with my burner.  cdrecord's
documentation tells you how to set it up (README.ATAPI, in particular).
