Edit your X-Window configuration (e.g., /etc/X11/XF86Config-4) so that a
1024x768 mode is available at the higher frequency.

If your X server allows you to change modes with [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Keypad Plus]
and [Keypad Minus], you'll probably notice that when it drops your regular
desktop view down to 1024x768 (it'll probably pan when you move the mouse)
it will also be at 60Hz.
