All right, I found the "bug". Thanks for your tip - indeed, doing it all in a manual session just doesn't work. It has to be done in a script (poor Windows users... ;-) ).
Just for the record; interactive usage works fine for me in the editor shipped with PyWin32. I can enter (interactive) commands one at a time without any problems.
