Re: [school-discuss] Replacement Hard Drive or Computer

Thanks, Tim, for opening up this line of thought. Like most computers built over the last decade or so,
my PC has several different slots for different kinds of small storage devices. If I could run my OS
and working data off of one fairly cheap thing, I should be able to use another--of a different type and
in a different slot--to backup my info as well. Question: would I really be able to bypass the hard
drive altogether all the time, if the HD crashes?

I'd like to get as much input as possible from as many of you techies as I can concerning variations
on this theme, with all of the potential pluses and minuses laid out....

Joel

how about buying a 16gb USB flash drive to run your OS...  http://www.pendrivelinux.com/   of course an SSD would be more fun... but they remain expensive for the time being.   If possible choose one of the speedier flash sticks...   http://usbflashspeed.com/

I am thinking of going that way for 5-10 older model computers at a university in Laos...  the current hard drives are in the 20-40gb range I think nearly 10 years old...  PIII cpus and 128mb ram.
