Hello,
Since Novemeber 1 Shadow netWorkspace (SNS) has been available for
download. We call the current version a preview release, because we hope
people will use this version to explore the potential of SNS to
advacne/improve thier learning community (school, class, group, etc.). We
are targeting early Febraury for something that approaches a 1.0 type
release.

sns.internetschools.org

SNS has an open source license and provides an intranet for a learning
community. By providing internet-based workspaces (virtual desktops) for
individuals and groups (e.g., classes, work groups) it faciliates knowledge
representation, sharing, collaboration and learning.

We've had nearly 200 downloads to this point and many of them have been
from colleagues in nations where english is not the primary language. A
number of people have inquired about the possibility of a version of SNS in
spanish, dutch, etc. etc. We think such a thing is possible and desirable,
but we need to find support for the design and development work of
"internationalization" We are hoping to find a foundation to support the
work, and would like to identify international educators/developers who
might be partners for such a project.

In particular we have been thinking about various EU initiatives and the
Grupo Carso Foundation in Mexico.

I'll be happy for any commentary or discussion about this issue over SEUL
or if someone wants to explore helping us or partnering with us....please
feel free to send an email directly to me at laffeyj@missouri.edu

Thank you,
Jim
