It is not the XML that you are having trouble with :-)  The part of EDUML that 
concerns gradebook information is still pretty rough.  Considering it is 
taking 8 full committees for the SIP consortium to formulate appropriate 
XML element definitions for a planned full year  to cover the same territory 
that EDUML covers, it is not surprising that there are still lots of rough 
spots left :-)

p.s. currently EDUML passes the calculation algorithms out to (as yet 
undefined) functions.  I guess this is a sort of mini API for mark 
calculations allowing any imaginable calculation method for marks.

So you (or someone else) can write a function for the german way of 
calculating in any language of your choice :-)

This idea is still rough and no proof-of-concept has yet been written (at 
least not by me and not announced here by someone else)
