[seul-edu] Teching/learning to write

I'm currently putting together the "learning written language" part of the
"Use SEUL/edu today" text..

I have a few suggestions of programs to use.

For the youngest I only know linux letters and numbers, and a bit later
lletters or what it was called where you type falling words, to learn
keyboard.

Later, for actual word processing I'm thinking of three alternatives.

1. You could switch from a very easy editor and change program as the user
gets more aquainted with typing programs. (from e.g. gedit through gnotepad
and to AbiWord..)

2. You could go for an advanced configurable editor which lets you strip it
down so that it has no confusing things at the beginning, and then
reconfigura to get more options). ..I really don't have any good examples
on this one.. anyone?

3. You could start directly with an advanced setting, and let the user
learn at his/her own pace. You've probably all heard my point before; but
using LyX directly which gives you no visible alternatives than changing
text type to "Header" if you want it to be like a header.

So, let's here your versions. How would you bring a young kid, starting to
learn written native language, through using keyboard, getting words,
sentences etc to fully processed texts of some kind (and hopefully in a
format possible to change into others, like TeX, sgml or xml)?
