That showing current dir in the pcb library window seems to be a
fallback for when one of the search paths does not work.
I had asked for these search paths:

lib-newlib = /home/john/EEProjects/footprints_luciani:./footprints:../lib/pcb/pi

Two had relative paths and work fine now with pcb with gtk HID.

The ./footprints dir did not exist when
I got a library window listing of the current dir.
