Specifically, it is the _lower case_ letter at the end which is ignored.
It was a (mis)feature designed to support "IC1a" "IC1b" as the same
part, "IC1" in the netlist.

I don't "think" upper case letters at the end of a refdes (without a
number) cause a problem.
