This is the way to go.
Get rid of grid based design, enter constrains and let the system figure
out the coordinates. Modern CAD tools work like this. It would be awsome
to have this integrated into the GUI.<daydreaming>
Component placement could benefit from this approach, too. Tell the system
that the left edge of a connector should coincide with the upper edge of
the layout and let the application do the required move.
