The output of HelpBlocks is HTML, so if someone wants to contribute something
they can contribute it as HTML and I will integrate it. As I
mentioned before the Block tools are good for setting up initial
program templates, I do the rest with EMACS which has always been free.
I believe in the Utopian Hacker Ethic (See Steven
Levy's classic book: "Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution"):
"All information should be free",
programs too, but until we reach Utopia if a commercial program
saves me time, or makes debugging easier, then it is worth the
investment. We all have far less time than money, as money is
replaceable, time is not.
That being said I have only ever bought two commercial programs the Block tool package,
and Gimpel's Lint,
http://www.gimpel.com/ . Both have saved me countless hours of time in software development.
http://www.splint.org/ is an Open Source Lint like program, but I still find Gimple's to be superior.
