I buy my Linux disks for the effort the vendor puts into making a
consistent and stable distribution, and for the ongoing and tested
patches that come with. And for the flashy upgrader, when the time
comes to catch up with the real world. I happen to be running SuSE
at the moment, and they specifically allow free download of the
stuff you can also pay money for; but frankly, the boxed set is
not expensive enough for me to bother. I like having the disks
around.

I'm not opposed to paying money for software, and I would not be
opposed to people selling Icarus Verilog. People sometimes forget
that in the early days of the GPL, this was explicitly encouraged.
