I was waiting for that.

The inevitable Open Source "If you do not like it, fix it yourself", mantra.
It just came up on the AVR-GCC list this week, and it came up on the
Mailfilter list in the past. What Open Source list does it not inevitably
come up on? To my knowledge everyone here, and every other Open Source
project, is volunteering their valuable time, for which they get to little
thanks.

I can only write for myself, but I work on open source code for my personal interrest. I am interrested in doing my boards on my UNIX box, so I do whatever I thik, I need to do, to achieve this goal. I could write my own program, I could decide, that it is not worth writing my own program, I also can take an existing program, use it and if there is something, I do not like, change it myself.

In essence, Everything, I did for open source was out of personal interrest.

To come back to Windows: I do nave no personal interrest in Windows, so I do not work on a port for it. This does OTOH not mean, that I boycot windows support, since I do not have any interrest in doing that, either.

I cannot speak for other developers, but my impression is, that the majjority of people doing work for open source prefer using a UNIX like operatin system.

I can feel with anybody, who is forced to use Windows, I often am forced to use it, too. :-( But in my spare time (when I occasionly do some work for open source projects), I avoid using it. I have a linux box and a Mac at home and can get along fine without windows. When I would work on porting gEDA to a new target platform, it would be MacOS X.
