gEDA-user: PCB: connect line to rectangle

Hello,
I have some lines that are ground that I am trying to connect to
rectangles. If I try to do that, there is space erased on the rectangle
surrounding the lines. How do I avoid this and make the connection?
Advice greatly appreciated.
