*Brand New* HP workstation with Linux preinstalled and up2date run:
[jpd@SiO2 ~]$ pkg-config --modversion gtk+-2.0
Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gtk+-2.0' found
[jpd@SiO2 ~]$ rpm -q gtk+
gtk+-1.2.10-36
gtk+-1.2.10-36
[jpd@SiO2 ~]$
