I think a valuable first step would be if someone could document the entire process. From downloading to building. There would probably need to be guides for the major compilers used.

I'm not to keen on hosting external packages in the pygame repository, but there's no major drawback to that. Once good instructions are working, it wouldn't be hard to keep some sort of build script in the repository.
