Well put, Bull.Â
In my home, we have four computers (two desktops, two laptops).Â
Three of them run (Xubuntu) Linux. My mom's runs Windows 7.Â
Guess which computer racks up the most hours of maintenance time
(it's the same one that has the recurring problem you mentioned
below).

believe what is being suggested is that windows is notorious for
corrupting the hard drive and producing the errors you might be
getting. The solution, if that is the case, is to format the hard
drive
and re-install everything from scratch. At HP many years ago, that
was standard procedure at least once a year if not more often.
My feeling is - get a real operating system that doesn't have
those sort
of problems. My wife use to use windows and we had that problem
every
year until she switched to a Mac, and since then we have never had
a single problem. Of course I use Linux and don't have the problem
as
well.

Specifically, what were the error

correct, but a little more info would be helpful.)

Sir,
I think it's great that you're trying to use GNU/Linux, but if
you just want to do programming, and you don't have a lot of
time to devote to learning to use another operating system...
but have you seen this?
Windows Portable Version (Beta)
http://www.basic256.org/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/basic256prtbl/
You mentioned Microsoft Windows 7 problems... any details, are
you able to take pictures?
When you boot up with GNU/Linux, are you seeing any errors?
I surmise you've already looked at the possibility of
re-loading your Microsoft operating system... if not, we can
discuss this further.
kind regards,
