Well, Marilyn has confirmed the need for something like Justin is describing. Good motivations. Please massage this idea further. Sounds like a good number of people find this of interest. Is that right?
For me, the iso comes before a booklet, but I can see the need, I think -- is it the old people like stuff they can touch? But I would like to hear more about what would be in it, and I definitely like the kit to help people trying to advocate FLOSS -- that\'s been said many times in the past in different ways, so I feel confident that idea has support.
Longer range, the benefit of such a project is that it\'s doable and it would give us a tangible accomplishment to build on and some much needed momentum. It could, as Bill Fitzgerald pointed out, prove to be an onerous task in the long run. Well, personally, I think it would be worth the short-term gains.

I am most interested in this project for two reasons.
1. I have been doing some substitute teaching this year at two schools where I was previously employed. At one small school the tech person is a friend who dabbles in Linux . . . she had me setup a FOG server for her while I was working there one week. She has the Gimp on computers for her yearbook students. Anyway, at that school, a sixth grade boy was doing a special project using Windows Paint (how pitiful!) - you know the basic art package. He does not have Internet access at home so I told him I would bring him a CD with some great art packages.
2. The state legislature is psycho here in Texas and is cutting funding for education even more next year. Our local 2A school has to cut $500,000 for next year. That amounts to 15 jobs easily at Texas wages. They already have a bare bones staff. I think we need to launch a ¨Save Teacher Jobs, Use Open Source Software¨ campaign.
