Or just use a  readily available ethernet driver.   To get the precision time protocol synced to your
world time sources, you still need PTP enabled hardware in an unbroken chain to the source.   But to use it locally for relative 
measuring, you just need a PTP enabled gateway with PTP ethernet on one side with the instrumentation,
and a webserver gateway to an ordinary ethernet port on the other side that you get timestamped data from.

No driver at all... (besides the standard ethernet you already have)
