This feature still seems second-class in gschem. This is a basic function for any "decent" schematics drawing tool. What is missing is a design "database" (a well-defined directory structure would do fine), with clear separation what is a symbol, schematics or other data. All of these views should share/exchange some information (on parameters, pins, pins ordering etc.).
