Typesetters have a concept called 'hairline' - it's the thinnest line a 
given device can produce.
This is what a line of width 0 is meant to do. If cairo renders this to 
nothing, it's a bug or
lack of understanding by the authors. For modern printers a hairline may 
be impractical.
