This is VERY important to me. As part of general cleanup after finishing a layout, I renumber all of the reference designators in geographical order. This gives technicians a fighting chance to find parts on a cluttered board.

doh!  I just looked and realized I _had_ already implemented this....

The only thing I had not done was test it out and create a regression test.

So, any volunteers?

In pcb, ":Renumber()", then use the pcb_backannotate script. Try "pcb_backannotate --help" to get you going.

oh, one more thing. Since pcb_backannotate had not been fully tested, it is distributed (geda-utils/scripts/pcb_backannotate) but it is not installed. I was waiting to add it to the install list until it had received some testing.
