This is the only workable option for Altium, I've never used Cadstar.
I prefer(ed)
VirtualBox over VMare.  However I'm not sure I like the
direction Sun is taking it now that they own it, so might
look more at VMware again.

BTW, there is also http://www.freepcb.com/ for Windows.
It is GPL.  Uses TinyCAD for schematic capture.
Your far less likely to be screwed over by using open source tools,
even if they are only for Windows, that you will be by Altium.
