It's intentional at least.  It connects all electrically connected
traces to the logical center of the pin/pad.  That way, all the line
"corners" are at the same spot and it doesn't need to search for them
any more.

If there were multiple lines connected, or if the diagonal lines
weren't there, adding the extra line allows for more optimization
opportunities also.
