I don't think any harm was meant by Stuart's comment, so please don't be
put off from gEDA forever. As you noted earlier, Stuart's comment just
summarises where development focus has been so far (and why).

I think you've found that it doesn't suit you at the moment, which is
not a conclusion anyone here will bash you for. Most importantly, when
asked, you've told us why it didn't suit you and what features you would
value. This is positively appreciated (where as a rant would not have
been).

The gEDA developers (myself included) are always interested to know what
people want to use the tools for, and what their work-flows are. We are
all committed to making the suite as inclusive and flexible as possible
to different users. (Within reason).

I think it's possible to get nearer what you want without sacrificing
any of the gEDA / unix philosophy of providing powerful tools which can
be used for various different purposes. All we need to add is the glue.
It is clear that as the suite tries to be more integrated with various
tools and work-flows, some means to select a configuration set or "mode"
will be necessary, as otherwise one man's glue will be another's
annoyance.

Do keep an eye on gEDA.. I suspect it has already come along some way
since you last tried it. (Particularly with respect to drawing issues).

Last question (out of curiosity).. when you experienced page redraw
times near a second.. did you by chance happen to be running a
compositing window manager like Compiz or Beryl? If so, forthcoming gEDA
release should address that particular bug, with a moderately
re-architectured drawing model. (Just FYI).
