I first got started with SQL that way: I was watching over the shoulder
of someone who was using a GUI to do some changes in a database. When
this GUI did something, it would display the underlying SQL it issued
to the database server. This made novice-level learning of SQL pretty
much trivial.
I'm sure this forms some kind of argument in this discussion, but I'm
not sure in which direction. :-)
