Sugar Labs (another Pygame user) recently became a member org as well.
I'm not sure if it would make a difference as far as getting accepted
goes, but it does solve the issues of the organization funding that
Google provides ($500 per student), and so on.

There certainly isn't time for joining the SFC, though that is more
than likely a good thing long term for Pygame. I think we still have
time to complete an application on our own. Keep in mind that there
is a cap on the number of students being funded, but not the number of
organizations. It would be great to have 1 or 2 really great
projects, as many small organizations did in the 2008 GSoC. I think
we absolutely have the mentoring capability as an organization for 1
or 2 students.
