I would like to point out that fancy font handling should not for any logical reason imply running only under linux.

Josh, we just hashed this out on another list. Did you miss that? This message shocked me even more than Marvin's "to hell with everyone else, I run Linux, it's ok that future versions will only support Linux!".


However, it should still be optional for people who want to use older
machines.

Howabout people who are running NEWER systems that just don't support the nonstandard extensions that some Linux systems do?
