Some time before 2005 there have been religious wars on how good 
symbols look like and what attributes they should contain. Specifically,
there was a dissent about the presence or absence of footprint attributes.
As a result, the default lib got populated with footprint-less symbols. 
User contribution was not encouraged. IIRC, mno additions have been accepted
since 2005. In parallel, gedasymbols.org was established with separate
sections for every contributor.
