Well, you have to *use* its scriptability, and not fight against it.  
Write little Scheme scripts. Transform information with AWK,  
exploiting the fully documented file formats. Lots of freedom here,  
but it only helps you if you use it. The scriptability comes from the  
fact that gEDA plays well with the the rest of the classic UNIX  
toolkit. Stubborn people may not want to go that way, but such people  
would be better served by a different kind of tool.

A specialized internal language is a poor way to get scriptability.
